Primary purpose

In partnership with Synergos Development Innovations, TechnoServe is working to transform the agricultural sector through the State Partnership for Agriculture (SPA). SPA uses a systems change approach to re-orient and strengthen key state actors in the sector in Benue, Kogi and Kaduna. As a consulting partner to Synergos, TechnoServe is conducting policy analyses aimed at improving decision-making at the federal and state levels, engaging critical private sector partners to promote agricultural investment, and conducting capacity building interventions.

The Business Development Consultant will be working closely with the program development team of Synergos and TechnoServe to provide support for new business development for SPA, research and analysis reports, feedback and communication with internal and external stakeholders. The consultant will be responsible for developing a robust new business pipeline for selling the SPA program to potential states, donors and private sector players.

“The duration of the task will be span for 6 months from the date of engagement”.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage strategic alliances & partnerships by securing corporate/ business relationships through effective client management & analysing joint ventures/partners to identify & ensure best suited options for the business.
  • Lead the business development team according to set objectives & initiate market analysis, review process ensuring that the senior management team are kept fully up to date
  • Support in proposal writing and new business coordination process
  • Drive new program design and development for the SPA Program.
  • Conduct research and develop concept notes for new business opportunities within the SPA Framework.
  • Plan, prepare and execute presentations to states, donors and private sector players.
  • Coordinate the production and dissemination of targeted communication materials (print and electronic) relating to all on-going country programs.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned.

Deliverables

  • Development and execution of SPA funding plan.
  • Development and execution of private sector funding plan.
  • Development of partnership frameworks.
  • Presentations to state governments and other stakeholders.
  • Design and implementation of a private sector-led project (pilot).

Minimum: B.Sc/B.A

General Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 4 - 6 years’ work experience in public sector engagement, NGOs as well as private investors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Agribusiness Management or any related field.
  • Experience in business development and sales
  • Experience in development sector and management consulting
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, technical writing and communications skills.
  • Good network and contacts with State Governments, donor agencies, private sectors and other agribusiness financiers.
  • Good network and contacts across various media channels, including social media
  • Teaching/sharing business knowledge for improving communication processes
  • Computer literacy with excellent MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Graphical literacy with excellent skills using graphics and communication related software
  • Ability to travel (50% travel involved)
