It is on this that our client hunts for a Fibre optic engineer who will be responsible for customer premise installations, including racking, cabling, bonding and grounding.
Job Description
- Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards Provide accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database
- Coordinate fiber activities with other departments
- Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters
- As a Data Centre Technician, the incumbent will rack, deploy and configure servers within a 24 as prompted
- Inspect breaks and determine remedial action
- whether repair, rehabilitation or relocation of DFA fibre optic cable network is required
- Determine, with assistance of Fibre Maintenance, the length and number of fibre optic cables to be installed and locality of fibre joints
- Arrange with appointed contractor to repair break and float fibre optic cable(s)and request
- quotation for work to be executed Issue site map (locality and layout plan) in conjunction with DFA KML files on Google Earth,
- On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored.
- Reviews and interprets underground and aerial cable records in existing records, on maps or in the field
- Makes precise recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables, or provides input into construction methodologies
- Testing / Commissioning systems on completion for coverage against design
- Monitor and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment
- Install demarcation enclosures and other telecom equipment
- Must be well versed in modern fiber splicing techniques
- OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multimeters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks Ability to work under minimal supervision
- And apply technical expertise to evaluate problems and implementing the best solutions
- Work a variety of schedules including normal duty and on call duty
- Break reports from Preventative Maintenance and photos related to the break

General Requirements
Qualification and Experience
- Technical/engineering background or equivalent
- Applicable experience or successful track record with ISP company
- Project Management experience is an advantage.
- 4 to 6 years’ experience working with communications network infrastructure

- Excellent customer facing skills
