Responsibilities

Our client, a leading transportation and logistics company is seeking for a self motivated and experienced Chief Operating Officer/ Director, Operations for immediate hire. The candidate for this role is expected to be able to:

  • Develop, coordinate and implement strategies and schemes that regulate effective and efficient urban mass transportation solution.
  • Lead the strategic and operational plans process that assures continued sustainability, business growth and to oversee company ongoing operations and procedures. 
  • Act as the company’s second-in-command, responsible for the efficiency of business.
  • Position objective

    • To realize efficient bus transport regulatory operations through effective use of available resources to return value to the stakeholders.

    Reporting Relationships

    • Employee reports to the board of Directors and the Managing Director

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the company’s business strategies, plans and procedures
  • Set comprehensive short, medium and long goals for performance and growth for the company
  • Set comprehensive performance goals  and ensure compliance to service level agreements by Franchise Operators
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management for operations
  • Responsible for driving the company to achieve and surpass profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives
  • Interact positively, collaboratively, and effectively with other related government agencies to ensure regular and efficient information update on operations.
  • Guarantee that policies, Responsible for establishing internal and external processes and key performance indicators for the business and for their measurement and effectiveness.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of the organization.
  • Manage budget and expenses aligned to operational realities and business goals in line with LBSL constraints, procedures and policies.
  • Analyze expenses and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • Recommend or authorize capital expenses for acquisition of new equipment or property in order to increase efficiency and services.
  • Lead, direct and coordinate bus fleet operations tasks and activities with the effective and efficient use of equipment, facilities, and human resources.
  • Direct and coordinate human and bus safety policy and procedures, and the process of determining causes of bus accidents.
  • Determine and guarantee the optimal decisions on bus scheduling, jurisdiction and zoning, and fee and tariff increases or schedule changes in them.
  • Direct and manage all aspects of bus franchising functions including rules and reform, eligibility requirements, infrastructure, agreement, operational monitoring and enforcement.

    General Requirements

    Required Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in transportation/transportation management or logistics of which 5 years is in senior management role.
  • First degree in Transportation/Transportation Management, Logistics, Engineering or Business related areas.
  • Possession of a Masters Degree would be an added advantage for the position.
  • Membership of the Institute of Transportation or Logistics
  • Knowledge/Skills

  • Automotive technology – Systems, machinery and technologies for buses and other transport equipment.
  • Transportation – General information on the principles and methods of road transportation, including the relative costs and benefits including laws, regulations, standards on transportation and specific knowledge of bus mass transport systems.
  • Automotive maintenance  – Maintenance and repairs of bus equipment, machines, gadgets, appliances and systems of transportation.
  • Business management – Strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, operations, and coordination of people and resources
  • Communication – Written and oral form.
  • Judgment and decision Making – Risk analysis, costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Coordination – organizing different elements of activities so as to enable them work together effectively.
  • Critical thinking – Apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Problem solving – Apply methods to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution that solves identified problems.
  • Organizing and planning - Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, arrange, and accomplish own work and that of others.
  • Leadership – Capacity to superintend, guide, plan, organize and manage activities.
