Primary Purpose: Both Business Advisors, with guidance from the Senior Business Advisor will work with their respective Local Community Trainers Jigawa State to provide technical support to farmers in the areas of farmergroup strengthening, best agronomic practices, financial literacy, gender mainstreaming and agricultural processing using labor-saving technologies. The Business Advisors will also facilitate business linkages, market information for farmers and farmer groups. This is in addition to monitoring of project performance, data collection and reporting. It should be understood that the tasks outlined below are the key responsibilities, but the employee is expected to perform any tasks that are necessary within the context of the evolving needs of the project.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and engage with relevant stakeholders critical to the successful implementation of project activities.
  • Conduct community entry exercise, including farmer mobilization, sensitization and selection.
  • Manage a team of local community trainers to provide training and follow-up support to participating farmers.
  • Identify new business opportunities for farmers and support the business case development for farmers’ investments.
  • Make significant contributions to the development of farmer training resources.
  • Ensure that Local Community Trainers carry out assigned duties as scheduled in the project work plan and provide guidance to Local Community Trainers in this regard on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that Local Community Trainers collect timely and quality data, that form the basis for Business Advisors’ timely submission of monthly report on project activity progress.
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans that help resolve project implementation challenges.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned.

General Requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business management and other relevant field.
  • Fluency in Hausa and English.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in capacities relating to either Agribusiness, Education, Marketing, Business development or Advisory services.
  • Prior experience with development organizations is a plus.
  • Prior experience on gender-focused projects is a plus.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a large team.
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to others.
  • Ability to actively engage with stakeholders particularly community leaders and farmer groups.
  • Ability to develop well written, cohesive analyses and reports.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with relevant software packages, including Microsoft Excel.
